Cereno Scientific has announced that its third asset, CS585 (a potent and selective agonist of the prostacyclin receptor), will be tested in preclinical disease model studies relating to antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), a rare autoimmune disease associated with recurrent blood clots and cardiovascular complications. This represents an important step in the development of CS585, while offering scope to broaden Cereno’s pipeline offerings. The candidate has shown an ability (in prior preclinical research) to prevent thrombosis without increased risk of bleeding. Current standard of care treatment options in APS rely on chronic anticoagulation approaches, and while these may reduce thrombotic risk, they can also significantly increase bleeding risk. As such, CS585 has the potential to address a key unmet need in this field.
