The announcement came hours after Trump said that negotiators would arrive in Pakistan on Monday for new peace talks. He warned Iran to accept a deal or risk extensive attacks on the country’s infrastructure.
From Tehran’s side, new peace talks are denied, according to the state news agency IRNA. The absence is said to be due to what it describes as Washington’s unrealistic demands and the ongoing blockade.
“Under these circumstances, the prospects for constructive talks still look bleak,” IRNA writes in a post on X, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Oil prices opened sharply higher on Sunday evening in New York and climbed back to nearly 90 dollars per barrel after two days of uncertainty over whether the Strait of Hormuz is really open to shipping. At the same time, stock futures point to declines in both Europe and the USA on Monday.
